At the beginning of the 19th century Vincenza Canale, the owner of the Hotel Casa Mariantonia in the island of Capri, was the first person to offer her guests limoncello, made with the lemons from the hotel garden.The hotel remains (www.casamariantonia.com) and is run by the descendants of Vincenza Canale and the lemons from the garden are still included in the production of Limoncello di Capri The Canale family trademarked the Limoncello di Capri and still produce the Limoncello di Capri faithfully to the original 100% natural recipe without the use of colorants, stabilizers and additives.
Limoncello di Capri sources its lemons from the gardens of Sorrento e Capri.

1. Produced exclusively by maceration peels in alcohol of “Limone di Sorrento” of Protected Geographical Indication (P.G.I.) This covers the heritage and tasteof the resulting product and requires that the rules are followed.
2. There must be minimum 250g of “Limone di Sorrento P.G.I. per litre— Limoncello di Capri ® exceeds this 1.5 times3. There must be between 200g and 350g of sugar per litre4. Alcohol volume not below 30%5. No preservatives or additives allowed
