Due to the African anticyclone we were forced to change the time when we picked, which resulted in a small drop in production especially in West Sicily and our vineyards in Menfi. However, we were blessed with a perfect September and October, resulting in a really beautiful vintage for Etna and an unforgettable one in Capo Milazzo.
Compared to the average production from the last three years, in 2017 we recorded a drop that ranged from about 25% in Menfi, through to 10% in other territories. Despite this, the quality of the grapes has not been compromised, and those entering the cellars are all looking fantastic.
Menfi produces more muscular but non-excessive wines: rounded white wines and intense red wines. In Vittoria, the wines are richer and more structured, with the usual flavours typical of the area.
Noto abounds in texture and colour in reds: the Moscato di Noto, harvested in advance, has preserved its peculiar aromatic characteristics. On Etna, the Nerello harvest is the best for Planeta and the whites are no less than the magnificent 2016 harvest in Capo Milazzo: the results are really extraordinary. Nocera and Nero d’Avola are in perfect ripeness – we’re expecting great thing
