Warm, comforting and homely notes of cinnamon. Wood spice and orange oil, opening into dried fruits with a sweet lemon, banana and caramel
- Soft and warming with wood spice, opening into a dry oak flavour spiked with candied raisin and fresh fig. Moving into a sweet fresh orange and delicate fresh citrus
Founded in 1824, by Alexander Reid The Macallan was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to be legally licensed. Since then, The Macallan has built a reputation as one of the world”s truly great single malt whiskies. Based in Craigellachie, Moray, Macallan falls outside the Speyside designation created by the Scotch Whisky Regulations 2009, it”s therefore labelled as a Highland Single Malt even though it falls within in the traditional region of Speyside. Known for its rich sherried style The Macallan alone accounts for some 65% of the total number of fresh sherry seasoned oak casks imported into Scotland. It is owned by the Edrington Group which purchased the brand from Highland Distillers in 1999.
The barley is grown specially for the distillery in Scotland and Northumbria, a mix of Concerto and the unique Minstrel variety. This is malted, then milled to grist, this is mixed with pure spring water drawn from beneath the Macallan estate. After fermentation the wash is distilled twice, first in the copper wash stills, and then in the unique small spirit stills – the smallest on Speyside – their size and shape concentrate the ‘new make’ spirit and provide the rich, fruity, full-bodied flavours of The Macallan
