Classic Upper Yarra Chardonnay, opening up with aromas of fresh green apples, grapefruit pith and a touch of flint. Lemon curd and fresh white peach on the palate, with a lovely taut structure and fresh acidity to finish.
The 47 acre Lusatia Park Vineyard was established in 1985 on the Lone Star Creek in the Upper Yarra Valley. Its north-facing aspect, deep free-draining red soils, and close-planted vines ensure intense varietal flavours derived from long, consistent ripening. At 220 metres above sea level, this maritime influenced site enjoys significantly cooler conditions to those of the valley floor, lending itself to more elegant wine styles.
The hand-picked fruit underwent an indigenous fermentation in 500 litre French oak puncheons, with no batonage or malolactic fermentation. The wine was then aged for 10 months in French oak (20% new) before bottling by gravity without filtration.
Giant Steps is a privately owned, estate based, Yarra Valley grower and winemaker that has forged a reputation for delivering some of Australia’s most consistent, over-performing, varietal wines. The Giant Steps Single Vineyard range is produced from the most site-expressive fruit from the best vineyards, in great years. Their aim is to express in each wine the character of the site, grape and vintage, and this they achieve by meticulous work in the vineyard and minimum intervention in the winery. Head winemaker Steve Flamsteed and his team are making some of the best wines in Australia from these sites.
